That's kind of like what an email list is like, only no one minds that you are listening.  You are expected to listen in, and ask questions when you don't understand.  If you have not subscribed to an email list before, relax.  Its free, and easy.  Your biggest problem may be keeping up with the amount of email some lists send.  But heck, if you fall behind, just trash it and keep going.

My favorite general Doberman list is Doberworld.  It has hundreds and hundreds of subscribers, all over the world.  You will "meet" some of the biggest names in Dobermans on Doberworld.  The variety of discussions is enormous.  Both novice and experienced Doberman owners are welcome.  It is normally a pretty friendly place, although once in a while heated discussions take place.

As with all mailing lists, its a good idea to "lurk" for a while when you first join.  Lurking means to just read the posts and say nothing until you get a feel for the way people speak to each other and the things they talk about.

To join Doberworld, send an email to listserv@apple.ease.lsoft.com.  Leave the subject line of the email blank.  In the body of the message, type:

subscribe doberworld-l YourFirstName YourLastName

That's it!  You will receive an introductory Welcome file describing the general guidelines for Doberworld. When you first subscribe, you will receive the list in DIGEST format (multiple messages compiled into a few daily mailings).  This can be helpful in keeping the number of email messages you get down to a manageable number.
