Sammy & Laika

We thought we would give you an update on our best friends.  In December, 1998, Julie introduced us to Sammy (then, Doobie).  He was so emaciated and withdrawn that Julie informed us he was not available for adoption.  Thank God she saw the connection, and changed her mind.  In July 2001, after losing our German Shepherd, Heather (an honorary Dobie), we met Laika (then, Yvette), who was also a “double rescue” and also emaciated.  How wonderfully their lives and ours have changed in the years since then.

We had a terrible scare last Halloween night.  Laika became very restless after dinner and could not lie down.  At midnight , the x-rays confirmed bloat.  They immediately prepared her for surgery and fund her stomach had twisted a full 360 degrees.  Thank God we did not wait until morning!  Now, just looking at her graying muzzle brings tears to my eyes.  We came too close to losing her.

Sammy (a.k.a. Dubious Maximus, Sunshine, or Uberdog), is a happy, bounding hunder-pounder and Laika (a.k.a. Peanut), is once again a beautiful, prancing athlete.  Now that we live in the mountains of North Georgia , the four of us love to go for hikes or runs together.

Dobes are so precious.  Thank you all for all your hard work to rescue these wonderful suls.  Thank you so very much.
