Long Distance Adoption

We seldom do long distance adoptions. For us, this means an adoption to someone who lives more than three hours drive from DFW Airport (outside the blue shaded area).

The reason is simple. If, for some reason, the adoption does not work out, we have found adopters reluctant to go to a lot of trouble to return the dog to us. People might drive an hour or two to bring the dog back. When it is much more than that we need to be able to drive to pick up the dog without waiting for the weekend. Hence the three hour drive limit.

The exceptions to this guideline are when we are adopting to a person who has previously successfully adopter from Doberman Rescue of North Texas, or when we have someone near the applicant who has agreed to cover for us in an emergency.

Still Interested in a Long Distance Adoption?

When you fill in your application, be sure to indicate if you have previously adopted from Doberman Rescue of North Texas and tell us the name of the dog (the name they had here, please) and the year you adopted.

If you live outside our area we would prefer you adopt from a Doberman Rescue closer to you. Check on our directory to locate other Doberman Rescues in the United States.

After checking with your local rescue, or if there is no one close to you, then go ahead and fill in an application. Our screener will probably suggest you check with the rescues we know of in your area. Let her know who you have spoken to and why you have decided not to adopt from them. Our board will consider your application but unless we have someone close to you who can help the dog in an emergency, we will be unable to adopt to you.
