School Days

We started doing Doberman Rescue in the early part of 1994.  Ben was in the Fifth Grade at Bess Race Elementary School in Crowley, TX. Julie was the German Teacher for the Crowley Independent School District. Ben would ride 45 minutes to and from school with her.

One of the first dogs we rescued was a huge blue male Doberman named Max.  Max adopted Ben.  This is Ben with Chase, our thoroughbred jumper, and Max.  It was taken during the summer of 1994 when Ben helped Julie build the kennel runs.

In Grade Seven Ben attended H.F. Stevens Middle School in Crowley.  He played Corner for the 7th Grade football team.  Ben loved to play football.

For the Eighth Grade, Ben transferred to Adams Middle School in Grand Prairie.  He subsequently attended Grand Prairie High School.  Julie had gone to both these schools when she was growing up.  This is Ben in the Tenth Grade.

Ben lead an active life at GP.  In his freshman and sophomore years he lettered in debate.  We convinced him to drop football (he was so much smaller than the hulks he was playing against) and take up tennis.

Ben played on the tennis team for three years, lettering in tennis.  While he enjoyed the sport and made some great friends, his coach was truly an awful human being.  So in the spring of his junior year, he quit tennis and tried out for cheerleading.

Cheerleading was something new to Ben.  He took tumbling classes to learn how to do back-flips and handsprings.  He made the Varsity Cheerleading squad, the only male in the group. He became very close friends with the other members of the team.  On May 26, 2001, Ben Graduated from Grand Prairie High School.
