Family Day - Eagle, Globe & Anchor Ceremony
The Moto Run finishes in front of the theater at the east end of the Parade Deck. After a rousing speech and cheers, the recruits run back to their house to change for the EGA Ceremony. Meanwhile, we parents went into the theater for a video and to meet the DI's. It was very theatrical, but kind of dark so I didn't get any good pictures. After the presentation in the theater, we hustled to the stands and found seats opposite where Ben's platoon would halt. We were all so on edge. Can you imagine that sense of anticipation, you haven't been able to give your son a hug in three months, and you must patiently wait. Thanks goodness we were all together, all the parents who had been exchanging email and helping keep each other on an even keel for so many weeks.
| They marched onto the parade deck. So tall. So proud. They would not leave without being presented the symbol of the Marine Corps. They had earned their Eagle, Globe and Anchor. [Close-up of Ben] | |
| They marched in front of us. Ben was a little to my left. | |
| They halted. | |
| Left turn. That's Ben in the middle and his best friend Bobby Cox, just to the right of Ben. Bobby and Ben met in Boot Camp and became fast friends. Turns out, we live 20 miles from Bobby's family. | |
| Parade rest. | |
| Salute the Colors. | |
| Sergeant Higgs presents Ben with his Eagle, Globe and Anchor. | |
| Ben takes off his cover to affix his Eagle, Globe and Anchor. | |
| It takes a minute to fasten the emblem to your cover. The screw is really tight. | |
| Done! Bobby has almost finished his. | |
| Always two fingers. | |
| Good to go! | |
| Back to parade rest. He's a Marine now! | |
| And the Marine glances over at his Mom and a tiny grin breaks out. | |
| "Mom, you said I could do it. And I did!" | |
| Ben and Bobby. Good to go! | |
| Attention! | |
| Dismissed! Aye, Aye, Sir! | |
| We rushed down the bleachers. Mom's first hug. | |
| And a hug for Grandma! | |
| And Grandpa! | |
| Just a couple of quick shots with your buddies. Kevin, Ben & Bobby. You Marines look mighty fine! |
