Thanksgiving
Ben and Bobby reported to the School of Infantry on Tuesday, November 13, 2001. Thanksgiving was the next week. They were given liberty for the day, but they had to be back at Camp Pendleton in the evening. So what happens to Marines who are far from home on Thanksgiving? They get adopted! Bobby and Ben were adopted by a magnificent family who opened their home and their hearts to our boys. I cannot express how grateful I am to them for this generous act.
| This is Bobby and Ben's new family. Can you tell Ben is really enjoying himself. We spent Thanksgiving with friends in Tyler. As we were sitting down to dinner, my cell phone rang. It was my buddy! | |

They finished Combat Training on November 30 and immediately shipped out to Pensacola, Florida. They reported in together and were made room mates sharing a pretty cushy suite of two rooms in Echo Barracks, complete with TV (with cable!) and telephone. Bobby is training to be an aviation electronics technician while Ben is training become an Air Traffic Controller.
On December 20, 2001, Ben and Bobby both started Christmas leave. They were both home in Texas until January 6, 2002. It was a Merry Christmas for all.
