When you arrive, you will first be interviewed by one of our members or volunteers.  You should have already completed an adoption application so the interviewer will zero in on any concerns we have, and on what you are looking for.

We will show you several dogs that fit within the parameters you are seeking, and you will be invited to spend some one-on-one time with each dog.  You can walk the dog around, play with it, try a little obedience work--whatever you like.

When you have made your selection (and provided you application is approved) you will be asked to complete our adoption contract and make your adoption donation. 

We will ask you to return to Doberhof to pick your dog up one week later.  During the week we will visit your home and do a home check, contact your vet and references, give your new dog a bath, and have his nails trimmed, if necessary.  When you pick him up we will tell you all about how to feed your dog and make suggestions about how to help him become accustomed to his new home and family.  We will provide you with a form listing the veterinary care your dog has received and the heartworm preventive, flea treatment, and shot schedule he is on.  You will get a folder with his rabies vaccination certificate, a copy of the adoption contract, an AVID registration form (for the microchip), and any other details we need to tell you.
